USER EXPERIENCE STUDY FOR ADOBE
ClickSight was recently used in a study to determine how users interact with Adobe products. ClickSight was downloaded onto the PCs of opt-in Adobe customers, and data was collected for about a month. The data was compiled into metrics that showed Adobe the most and least used features, application switching behaviors, and possible problem areas within their applications.
Q&A with Mike Talvensaari, Product Manager, Creative Suite User Experience, Adobe
What challenge did Adobe face before turning to ClickStream Technologies?
We wanted to see the wider user-experience, and which features were and were not being used. We needed something beyond anecdotal evidence, so we turned to ClickStream.
Why did you choose to apply ClickSight technology to this challenge?
ClickStream seems to be unique to the industry in that it tracks feature usage both within and beyond a product.
What were some of the results that ClickStream found from its studies?
ClickStream showed us which features were used widely, which features were used very little, as well as which applications were used together.
What did ClickStream advise Adobe to do as a solution to the problem?
ClickStream gave us insight into which products should be marketed together, which features we needed to invest more resources in, and which features we needed to prioritize development on, based on Clickstream's feature usage data.
In what way did Clickstream change the problem-solving process?
ClickStream allowed us to focus development on the right areas.
SEARCHING FOR SUCCESS
A leading player in the increasingly competitive search market asked
ClickStream Technologies to improve its brand of search. ClickStream
customized its ClickSight technology to collect data about
the searches of the participants as well as other application activities
they engaged in while searching.
ClickSight revealed participants were 15 percent less likely to remain
in our client’s application after performing a search, as compared
with competing search applications. Combining this data with our research
on concurrent application use, ClickStream Technologies advised the
client how to design a more engaging product that integrated search
with other application features.
Follow up research shows a 9 percent increase in participant usage
plus customer reports of increased productivity and product satisfaction.
EXPECTATIONS DELIVERED
A large media delivery company kept losing business to its competitors.
They approached Clickstream Technologies to discover why. We recruited
hundreds of their users through an anonymous survey and conducted
analysis of the usage results. Our study showed that although our
client still retained a leading market share, it was losing ground
to two specific competitors. Applying ClickSight technology, we identified
and analyzed features in competing applications For comparative analysis
and recommendations. We also integrated the usage data with demographic
segmentation to better target new users.
Applying ClickStream’s recommendations, a follow-up study showed
that participants spent 32 percent more time using the new version
of the application. On top of this boost in usage, by identifying
the demographics of the target market, ClickStream helped our client
increase sales by 21 percent within specific markets. The information
and analysis provided by ClickStream Technologies catapulted a floundering
technology into a competitive market position.
SOFTWARE HELPING SOFTWARE
When the profits of one of the largest graphic software companies
began to level off, ClickStream Technologies was asked to find strategies
to make its software more compelling based on actual user interaction.
After developing a custom pilot version of ClickSight that recorded
all user activity and deep user interface actions, ClickStream launched
a full-scale study revealing that two programs within our client’s
product bundle overlapped features by 35 percent. The data also revealed
the extent of concurrent application use of our client’s products
and competing products. We also helped to identify the program’s
most and least used features.
As a result, the development time of the new version of our client’s
software decreased by 18 percent through test matrix efficiencies
and new feature optimization – all based on actual customer
use.
